These unique, one-of-a-kind handmade teddy bears originate from The Island Craft initiative in Sri Lanka. This is a collective organisation established to nurture and support local artisans and cottage industries in small village communities. Island Craft focuses on keeping the legacy of handmade crafting alive, which enables artisans to have self-sustained livelihoods.
Description: Made with cotton knitting yarns, each bear is dressed with up-cycled fabric and stuffed with cotton; no two are alike which means every single bear has his or her own distinctive personality and clothing. We will send one we pick for you or alternatively choose your own! Just indicate at checkout which one you like.
Each teddy bear represents the hope and livelihood of twenty women who are rebuilding their lives through Island Craft’s Knitting Project in Northern Sri Lanka. What better way to support these women as they leave behind the ravages of civil war and continue on their journey of peace and independence through their beloved traditional craft.
Composition: Hand-knitted with 100% cotton yarn dressed in up-cycled cotton with soft 100% cotton filling. Every teddy is created using offcuts from traditional hand-loomed fabrics.
